Marcin Mikołajczyk presented major challenges and directions of changes in the area of corporate governance in the financial sector. When referring to the consulted draft [DU5.1]of the joint guidelines of the European Banking Authority (EBA) and the European Securities and Markets Authority (ESMA) on the assessment of the suitability of members of the management body, he emphasised that proposed solutions stayed in line with the existing supervisory approach followed by the KNF. 

He has added that the area of corporate governance is now subject to dynamic regulatory changes both at the national and the European level. Aspects related to digital resilience, cybersecurity, counteracting money laundering, and sustainability are increasingly relevant.

When talking about the most important challenges related to corporate governance in Poland, he pointed to the need to properly separate the powers of specific corporate bodies, apply the rules of internal governance consistently, and further reinforce the role and professionalisation of supervisory boards.
